Location
Sector-7, Chandigarh
Located in the bustling market of Sector 7, Chandigarh, FLINT was envisioned as more than just a restaurant — it was designed as an experience that captures the raw, primal energy of cooking over live fire. The concept draws inspiration from the elemental relationship between flame, texture, earth and gathering, translating the culinary philosophy directly into the spatial language of the interiors.
In a market saturated with visual noise, the design intent was clear from the beginning: to create a space that would instinctively make passersby pause, look in, and feel drawn toward the warmth within. Rather than relying on overt spectacle, the project uses atmosphere as its strongest invitation. A muted earthy palette, layered tactile surfaces, warm ambient lighting and suspended organic installations collectively create a sense of intrigue and intimacy against the fast-paced urban backdrop outside.
The interiors were conceived as an extension of fire itself — warm, imperfect, textured and immersive. Curved architectural forms soften the compact spatial proportions, while handcrafted finishes and naturally inspired materials evoke the feeling of being carved from earth and ash. The wall installations abstract geological formations and burnt landscapes, subtly referencing erosion, smoke and embers. Overhead, the suspended sculptural canopy introduces drama and movement, creating an almost cave-like dining environment that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in nature.
Lighting played a critical role in shaping the emotional character of the space. The layered glow from pendant fixtures, concealed lighting and reflective surfaces was carefully curated to mimic the warmth and depth associated with open flames. This creates a dining atmosphere that feels intimate, theatrical and inviting throughout the day and night.
Given the narrow spatial configuration, the planning focused on maintaining visual continuity and spatial depth. Semi-transparent partitions, reflective surfaces and staggered textures were used to create rhythm while preserving openness. Every element within the restaurant was designed to contribute toward a singular sensory narrative — one that celebrates fire not only as a method of cooking, but as a symbol of warmth, gathering and memory.
Completed in March 2026, FLINT reflects Terra Incognita’s approach toward hospitality design — crafting spaces that are emotionally immersive, contextually responsive and driven by strong conceptual storytelling rather than superficial aesthetics.
